If the world was designed for families…
And also, as it turns out, many of these things would simultaneously makes things better for people with disability.
Cafes and restaurants would have a “baby side” option. Whatever meal the parent orders, a “baby side” would have a few nutritious and baby-appropriate pieces on a separate plate, for no more than a few dollars more, or even better, free.
The default width of car parks would allow for doors to be opened fully so you can comfortably get a child in or out, with the bonus that kids wouldn’t be constantly whacking doors into the adjacent car in their enthusiasm. Yes, it would take up more room. But if we coupled this concept with better public transport options, it’d be a win all round.
Highways already have emergency pull-off areas every now and then, but they'd have pull-off "care points" much more frequently where you can pull over quickly and safely to feed a screaming baby/bush wee/vomit etc.
At school pick up there would always be a “the baby is screaming” lane to either pull over easily OR have an express way through. Similarly, every retailer would have a “baby is asleep in the car” option for hand delivery to the car. It's amazing it took a global pandemic for "direct to boot" to take off.
EVERYWHERE, and I mean EVERYWHERE, would have a ramp for prams and a door that’s easy to open and not too heavy. You might think automatic doors would be even better, but they can be a nightmare when you’re trying to keep toddlers in or out.
EVERYWHERE a parent and baby might reasonably go would have an appropriate baby care room including a private breastfeeding booth. This includes workplaces, public venues, schools, cafes, shopping centres.
Caravan parks would always have a family shower block, so any gender parents can get all the kids showered together.
Smart watches would have a “which side did I breastfeed from last” feature.
The news and glorified violence like UFC would be allowed in over 18s areas only, not general spaces like the bank or family pubs/clubs.
