Doesn’t my employer already provide support like this?
Yes, they might. Depending on which state or Territory you’re in, there might be Senior Teacher, Assistant Principal, Regional Advisor or other roles that can support you. If you’re in an early childhood education and care service, there might be an Area Manager, Pedagogical Leader or other support role. See if you can get the support you need there first. That way it will be free and directly aligned with your system’s requirements. It’s also a great way to build relationships with leaders so they get to know what you have to offer and can provide opportunities for you to move within your organisation.
But here’s some reasons to go outside your system:
I’m completely impartial and don’t hang out with any of your colleagues. So you can be honest and talk freely about your challenges.
I’m not in your reporting line in any way. I don’t have any other agenda apart from helping you be the joyful, effective, motivated educator the children need you to be.
Sometimes, even with the best of intentions, parts of the system ARE the barrier to doing great work. Unrealistic expectations, time-consuming but low-impact practices, inconsistent whole-school approaches can all be a reality of teaching. I’ll help you prioritise and work more efficiently so you can do what you need to do to be compliant, effective, and motivated to continue teaching.
